AllWebCo's Web Hosting FAQ's
What is a Virtual Domain?A Virtual Domain means having your own domain name (http://www.your-name.com) without having to install expensive server hardware and software. With a Virtual Domain, you utilize our server's storage space, however you are still professionally represented via your own personal Internet web address domain name (www.your-name.com) and by your own personal e-mail address domain name (you@your-name.com). You should check our "WHOIS" service to make sure that your desired domain name is available. Can I access my domain address with or without the "www"?Yes, you will be able to access the domain address with or without the "www" in front of the domain name. Example: [http://www.your-name.com] or [http://your-name.com] is acceptable, whichever you prefer. Do you offer dial-up Internet access? No, you will need local Internet access in order to maintain your web site and retrieve email addressed to your site. There are many places to get dialup services, many of which are even free. If you have questions concerning your current Internet access, and whether or not it will comply with AllWebCo's web services, please contact us via e-mail. Do you handle the domain registration process?Yes. We will be more than happy to register your domain name for you at only 25.00 per year (a great savings over InterNIC, who charge 70.00 for the first two years, and 35.00 per year thereafter) or if you are moving an existing domain name to our servers from another host, see the next section for more details.
Can I transfer existing domain name to your servers?Yes, just be sure to specify that you are requesting a transfer and NOT a new domain. If you are moving your site to our servers from another hosting company, you will need to change the DNS (domain name server) entries for your domain name. (sometimes referred to as NameServer entries) NOTE: You should first upload your site's current pages and files to the IP address you received from us when you ordered. You do not want to change your NameServer entries until you have finished this, because your domain name will point to a site with no pages, causing down-time for your site. (an IP address can be used like a domain name, so you'll upload your pages using that, and then when the NameServers are changed, your domain name will point to your new site with us.) At the end of the 72 hours you should verify that you've been switched over, and then contact your previous host to have them delete the old domain from their records and update their DNS record. If you use this same provider for your Internet access you will not be able to access your domain site until they update their DNS.
